We are happy to introduce our new products, which is Overland Safari’s, in the Tanintharyi region, which is in the Southern part of Myanmar (Burma).
For your information, after decades of isolation, the south of Myanmar is now opening up slowly. During our overland safari’s, we will discover many interesting places and beautiful beaches, we will meet kind hearted people in faraway places and experience their natural basic life style , where families members live all together under the same roof, fishing is their main job and income We will visit many of the places and people living along the coast of Thanintharyi region.
The southern part of Myanmar which is the Thanintharyi coast line is still very unexplored and a last natural frontier for you to discover. The area covers about 36,000 square kilometers of land, which includes many uninhabited islands and un-spoiled beaches, very few overseas travelers have previously been allowed to visit and travel in these areas without a special permit from the Myanmar Government. (these days we are allowed to travel freely in these areas without a permit).

Dawei (Tavoy)
Dawei is the capital of Tanintharyi region and located in the Southern part of Myanmar, Dawei, was known as Tavoy during the colonial times. You can reach Dawei by air from Yangon and the flying time is about one and half hours, or by bus the trip from Yangon to Dawei will take 14 hours.
Dawei is an interesting town to explore, all the old heritage and the beautiful location and it’s surroundings. we will also visit the idyllic beaches to Maungmagan, Nyaung Pyin, Nabule etc. From Dawei it is possible to drive to the remote town of Htee Kee (this over land trip takes 4 to 5 hours from Dawei), Htee Kee is the Myanmar border town where you can cross over to Phunaron (Phu Nam Ron) in Thailand, and Phu Nam Ron is the nearest small border town, which is close to the big city in Thailand called Kanchanaburi.
Myeik (Mergui)
Myeik, which locals called “Bake”, the city was known as Mergui during the colonial times, Myeik is located in the extreme south of the country on a peninsula jutting out into the Andaman Sea.
Myeik is the largest city in the Tanintharyi Region and this bustling town is a major trading centre that includes a strategically significant port that has existed during the past 500 years, the main business in Myeik is fishery. This charming city has many beautiful pagodas, Buddhist temples, historical and beautiful wooden architecture buildings and busy streets.
The town itself has many attractions to explore, the lively morning fish market is one of the attraction.
This beautiful town of Myeik can be reached by air from Yangon and the flight time takes about 2 hours. You can also fly from Myeik to Dawei, and this flight takes about 30 minutes. But the most interesting trip, will be to do overland safari by car and this trip takes about 8 hours, it’s such a beautiful sceneries along the way. And you can stop in a village and take your rest time, and meet with local people on the way to Myeik / Dawei.
KAWTHAUNG (Victoria Point)
The town is located in very southern part of Myanmar, nestled in the hills overlooking the southern section of the archipelago.
Kawthaung Cape, known as Victoria Point, and the town’s area is along the slope from north to south, Kawthaung is a very important place for border trade between Myanmar and Thailand. The statue of King Bayintnaung and the previous King himself is very revered in Myanmar history. The biggest pearl in the world was also discovered in the Kawthaung area near Zardatgyi island.
Kawthaung would be the very best gateway to explore the Mergui Archipelago, which has more than 800 islands in the Andaman Sea. Join our Island Safari to explore this lost world of wonderland and beautiful islands, with it’s unspoiled beaches, rain forest and wildlife.
Flying from Myeik to Kawthaung will take about 25 minutes; if you take the long tail boat from Ranong border point to Kawthaung border point, it will take you about 35 minutes to cross the river Par Chan, this river divides Thailand and Myanmar.
Salone People @ Moken (Seas Gypsy)
In the southern Myanmar you can meet the Salone people, also known as Moken people (sea gypsies); Andaman Sea is their birth place where they build their own traditional boats which is also their home for all their family members. They dive for pearls and they have a special way of spear-fishing and they live their lives in a very unique way.
You can say “ArrMon” which is a greetings word in the Salone language dialect, but you can’t ask their birthday, as they don’t have a tradition to record their date of birth!
